Saturday’s Youth Retreat at the Consolata …….. Saad Bakos
The Day began with sister Amira with the main topic, which was a vocation. She talked about her vocation which was to be married and have lots of children. Then she realized that when she became a sister, she would have many children to look after. Then father Carlos whom was a missionary in thirty counties, took it a step further and had the youth divided into five groups in order to come up with several possibilities as to how to recognize a vocation and what are the consequences to one’s lifestyle. Father Carlos also told a few stories based on his experience in Africa. One story being, that he and his group had to travel 116 miles to get water to cook food. Also one of the hot topics was the importance of Catholicism amongst the other forms of Christianity in terms its history and its accuracy leading back to the days of Christ and the Old Testament. For lunchtime, most of the youth gathered in the southern church hall for pizza and some memorable photos. Preceding lunch was Father Carlos presenting again. The topic was, “if one is to pass though the gates of heaven, then does one need to believe in Jesus Christ only?” During this questions and answer period, a couple of youth were insisting that the answer to the question is yes. Father Carlos tried to explain that God loves everyone equally and that all the profits are a shining beacon to God in the highest. If one is born into another religion such as Islam, Judaism, and Buddhism and lives his or her life like a good Christian, then her/she deserves to pass through the gates of heaven. This was a hot topic for the youth and Father Carlos was pleased with the participation. The day ended with a short mass at the Consolata’s chapel conducted by Father Yousif. All youth were really pleased with how this day had turned out.
